Aug 2, 1925 - Dec 24, 2017
On December 24, 2017, Edward Eiichi Yamamoto passed away in the Campbell River hospital. His devoted daughter, Marion, was by his side when he died peacefully.

He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Mary Midori Yamamoto, daughter Marion, son in law, Richard Franklin, his three grandchildren, Daniel Franklin, wife Jenn and great grandson, Elijah; Miya McDonough and husband, James; Amy James and husband, Alec, and large wonderful extended family of cousins and relatives.

He also leaves two brothers, Susumu Yamamoto and Harry Yamamoto and their families.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Sadao and Kinu Yamamoto, and brother, Saburo.

Ed was born in Mt. Lehman, British Columbia on August 2, 1925. He lived in Canada until he was a young boy, and was sent to live with his grandmother in Dogoshima, Japan. He became an elementary school teacher who was beloved by his students.

Later, he moved back to Canada to help his father and mother who owned a farm in Vernon, B.C. Ed married Mary, Marion was born, and the family moved to Winnipeg where Ed worked in construction.

Ed moved to Victoria in 1966, and started a very successful lath and insulation company.

In 1986, he again moved back to Vernon to take care of his ailing father. In Vernon, Ed turned his green thumb into a business and worked as a landscaper and tree pruner. Ed and Mary eventually moved to Campbell River, where semi-retired, he did landscaping and was actively involved in helping raise his three grandchildren. Ed was very skillful at the art of bonsai.

The family wishes to thank the emergency room staff, Dr. Proctor, Dr. Farias, Dr. Salem and all the nurses and Care Workers in Day Care Surgery, CDU and 3rd floor at the Campbell River Hospital for their wonderful care and support during Ed's brief illness.

A special thanks from Marion to Sara and Zac for their gentle care during her dad's last moments.

The family will hold a celebration of life for Ed this coming August. Friends and relatives will be invited to attend.

Marion asks that anyone who knew her father give a friendly smile or helpful hand as he did all his life.
