Edie was born March 2, l916 to Alice and Dawson Norrish of Lasqueit Island in Victoria, B.C., the eldest of 4 children. She grew up on Lasqueit and married Merril Hadley on Dec. 26, 1935. They lived “Up Coast” at Call Inlet, Bones Bay and Hadley’s Bay where Edie worked alongside her husband working in a shingle mill and logging and raised her 2 sons, Bill and Sid. She was known for her warm hospitality, sense of humour, was an excellent cook, knitter, and homemaker. She and Merril played the accordian together for many parties. After many years, she and Merril moved to Sayward in 1992. She will be dearly missed by her family: Sid and Val, daughter-in-law Ruth; grandchildren Lynne (Rod), Dale (Joy), Rodney, Dave (Amanda), Dan, Debbie (Murray); great-grandchildren Julie, Serena, Taylor, Kirstin, Bill, Heather, Nicole, Sydney, Jessica, Samantha, Christy and Mike and great-great grandson Jake, her extended family and friends. She was predeceased by son Bill in 1981, and husband Merril in 1994, and her siblings Violet, Alice (Bubs), and Jack.

Thank you to her caregivers Dianna and Cheryl, many friends, and the doctors and nurses who looked after her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sayward Heritage Hall, 1257 Sayward Road on Sunday, April 26 at 1:30 p.m. Bring your stories and memories.
