Doug was born January 30, 1943 in Russell, Manitoba to Robert & Dorothy Sawyer and passed away peacefully with his family around him on December 25, 2005 (complications resulting from a stroke). Doug was raised in Foxwarren, Manitoba and came to BC in 1961 to join the Navy. Doug was predeceased by a sister (Roberta) in 1948 and his father (Bob) in 1968. He will be fondly remembered by his son Rob (Jackie); daughter Crystal, his mother and step-father Dorothy and Harold Gollmer, sister Shirley (Ted) Scott and brother Ken (Terry) Sawyer. Also, Bunny who made his last year very happy. Doug was a heavy-duty machine operator joining local #115 in 1971. His favourite pass times included; golfing, fishing, curling and gambling.
Please come and share your thoughts and memories at a celebration of Doug’s Life on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at 1p.m. in the main ballroom at the Crown Isle Golf & Country Club in Courtney, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Doug’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
