RAMM

Douglas Grindell

Passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2004 after a very short and courageous battle with cancer. Born April 17, 1938 in Regina SK. Doug was predeceased by both parents, Svend and Sara Ann (nee Grindell) Doug is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Beatrice Ann (Bea), his four children, Cynthia, Craig, Clayton (Sandra), and Steven (Lotti), warriors all, and 11 grandchildren, Cassandra, Geordie, Charlotte, Janelle, Cara, Whitney, Nicole, Brenden, Shelby-Lynn, Mitchell and Kenny.

Doug grew up in Saskatchewan and had numerous careers prior to moving to BC in 1965 as a sales manager for the Johnson Wax Company. In 1974 Doug brought his family to Campbell River with the purchase of the Big Rock Store. Doug and Bea and family actively ran the business until 1981 when they sold and looked for other adventures. A true entrepreneur, Doug spent the next twelve years dabbling in different businesses that took him and Bea to Saskatoon, and Victoria, returning to Campbell River in 1993. In 1999 Doug and Bea were forced out of retirement, and returned to operating the Big Rock Store, retiring again in 2003. He loved working with the public. Doug was a true optimist, his glass was always half full. He took pride in being able to help people. He was a proud and dedicated grandfather. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the very special care supplied by Dr Robert Ramsay and the all the home care nurses that allowed Doug to remain in his home.
