DOUG MARSHALL 1935-2008

It is with deep sorrow and saddened hearts we announce the passing of husband and father, Douglas Marshall. Doug, an avid sailor who loved life on Vancouver Island died on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the age of 72. His wife, Julie and family members were by his side until the end. A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Doug moved to Nanaimo in 1996 after a respected career as safety superintendent at Celanese Canada in Edmonton. Doug was active throughout his life enjoying boating, wood working, big band and jazz music and puttering in the garden. As a member of the Nanaimo Sailing Co-op Doug, along with his boating friends enjoyed many hours sailing island waters. Doug and Julie enjoyed an active and healthy retirement exploring the island, walking area beaches, and "Happy Hour" sharing a good glass of scotch with family and friends. Doug will by sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by family: Children; Glenn (Debbie), Jackie (Mike), Sharon (Jan), and Ray, also grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. We wish him calm seas and fair weather forever. At Doug's wishes there will be no service. A celebration of Doug's life and send off at sea will take place at a later date. Doug's family expresses sincere thanks for the support and comfort offered by nurses and staff at the Palliative Care Unit of Nanaimo Regional Hospital. As an expression of sympathy donations in memory of Doug may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Nanaimo Regional Hospital.
