Dorothy May OVEREND

June 25, 2006

OVEREND,

Dorothy May

Sept. 17, 1918 ~

June 25, 2006

It’s with joy and sorrow, we announce the passing of Dorothy, our gift of God, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. Surrounded by her loved ones, with Dad holding her hand, Mom slipped quietly to glory.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Maurice; son Gary (Debbie) of Chilliwack, BC; daughters Donna May (Rod) of Courtenay, BC and Linda Hobson (John) of Black Creek, BC; grandchildren: Tamara, Justin, Ashley, Stefanie (Alfred), Karissa and Jackson; brother Merv McRorie (Maxine) of Sardis, BC; brother-in-law Arnold Beirnes of Nanaimo, BC and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Overend of Barrie, ON, Livonia Wiltse of Langley, BC and Teresa Taje (Dave) of Boyle, AB; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorothy was born in Melfort, SK to Norman and Annie McRorie. She grew up on the farm with her brothers Bert, Les, Wendell, Merv and Aubrey and sisters Reta and Edena. In 1939, the family moved to Penticton, BC and it was there she met the love of her life, Maurice, whom she married in 1943. They settled in Vancouver where they raised their family. Then it was out to Langley for their retirement years. In 2003 they moved to the Comox Valley where they made Casa Loma their home.

Mom’s homes were always filled with warmth, laughter, food and fun. She loved the outdoors and the family spent many enjoyable vacations camping and hiking. In their later years, Mom and Dad looked forward to their yearly RV’in trips to California and Arizona.

Mom had a strong unshakable faith in God and lived life reflecting her Christian beliefs. Her strength of character and quiet wisdom, laughter and listening ear endeared her to all who knew her.

The family would especially like to thank the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassionate care during Mom’s final days.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 7th, 2006 at 1:30p.m. at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, BC., Lawrence Burns, officiating. A Celebration Tea will be held at Casa Loma, 4949 Headquarters Road, Courtenay, at 3p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or The Gideon’s in Dorothy’s name would be greatly appreciated.

Who can find a virtuous

woman? Fore her price is far above rubies......

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
