In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother Dot Gorbatuk. Mom passed away on February 13, 2023 at the age of 99. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Steve (1973).
She will be deeply missed by her children, Kerry McBride (Doug), Paul Gorbatuk, Roslyn Nickel (Dave), her 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Mom was born in Cumberland and grew up in Courtenay. She left and went to St. Paul’s Hospital to become a nurse, graduating in 1946. After graduation mom moved to Powell River to work in the hospital. She met her husband, Steve, in Powell River and lived there for 42 years. When Steve passed away at 49 mom took over managing the family jewellery store- Peterson’s Jewellers. Her son , Paul, went to work in the business as well. Mom retired from the jewellery store in 1989 and moved to Sydney, B.C. to be near a brother and sister. She lived there for 15 years. Her last move was to Campbell River to live near her daughter Roslyn and family. Mom lived in Campbell River for 18 years.
Mom enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, reading and entertaining her many friends. She was always available to family to help out when needed. Mom had a very generous soul.
A sincere heartfelt thank you go to the staff at Ironwood Place for their wonderful care of mom.
