March 4, 1926 - May 17, 2019
Long time resident of Campbell River, Jacqueline (Jackie) Fell, passed away, aged 93, on May 17, 2019 at Evergreen Seniors Home. She is survived by her son Bruce Fell and daughters Lauren Wagner and Lesley Fell; four grandchildren Janice Evans, Harlow Wagner, Jacqueline Bernier and Duncan Fell and five great grandchildren; also by her eldest sister Patricia Pelky. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Harlow Fell, and sister Geraldine Causeley.
Mom was born in Port Arthur (Thunder Baby) on March 4, 1926, the youngest of three girls. She met our father who was in the navy, during WW2 and, as a young bride, accompanied him to naval bases in Halifax and then Victoria. After the war, the couple settled with son Bruce in Port Arthur where daughters Lauren and Lesley were born.
In 1956, the family moved to Campbell River where Dad worked at Elk Falls Mill. Mom found it hard to adapt to the gray and rainy climate but learned to love life on the coast, especially when fishing and exploring by boat became a part of family life. In the years after Dad retired, Jackie enjoyed cross Canada travel with him as well as trips to the UK and Hawaii. She joined The Happy Wanderers and enjoyed many of their excursions. Jackie also took a lively interest in politics and current events right up to the end and never lost her sharp sense of humour.
After our father died in 2011, Jackie moved to Evergreen Seniors Home where she was able to stay in the same cozy room until the end. At Evergreen, she enjoyed good friendships, lots of activities and excellent care from the staff. Visits from family, friends and various pets were frequent highlights for her. Her devoted daughter and greatest advocate, Lauren, visited almost daily. It was a great blessing that she died peacefully in the familiar surroundings with Lauren and her first grandchild, Janice (Ron), at her bedside. Later in the summer, the family will have a small ceremony to scatter her ashes along with Dad's as they both wished.
A special thank you to the incredible staff at Evergreen Seniors Home. To Lynda, thank you for always being there for our Mom. Thank you to Dr. Douglas, and Dr. Veerapen for your care.
