Doris was born in Ontario. She married Duncan in 1958 and left her government secretarial job in Toronto to move to Burns Lake B.C. Doris' volunteer work involved Kinettes, church, library & ESL tutoring. She assisted Duncan, running his business office for years. Doris was a life long learner including commuting 290 miles to P.G. for courses towards her B.A. (U.Vic. 1989). They joined Christ Church Cathedral upon retirement, developing many friendships in Victoria. Doris volunteered with the Guild, Lay Eucharistic Ministry, Prayer group & coffee hour. Work included greeting and working at a private language college.
Doris loved travelling, especially to Hawaii. Doris will be remembered for her smile, her feisty, caring nature and her love of family and learning. She described her "greatest accomplishment" as raising her family.
Special thanks to the staff at the Heights at Mt View, particularly the care aides & nurses on the 4th floor.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, brother and husband. Doris is survived by her son Mark (Doreen), grandchildren Caitlin,Cameron; son Steve (Adrienne), grandchildren Lindsay, Logan; daughter Heather; sister Ruthie (John), nephew Shaun (Colleen); niece Alida (John), Anne (Nick); niece Bronwyn (GianCarlo), Emily.
A service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral 930 Burdett Avenue, Victoria on July 23 at 1 pm.
