October 4, 1935 – October 24, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother – Elaine Johnson.
Elaine leaves to mourn daughter Karen Johnson and her children Paul Carter (Shelby) and Olivia Carter, daughter Dianne Johnson and her children Alysha Torrence (Oliver) and their child Brayden, Brianna Hewlett (Kolt) and their children Isaac, Evelyn and Theo. Also left to mourn are sisters Beverly Johnson (Leo) and their family, and Gail Haya, cousin Maisie Johnson (Baldur) and their family as well as many Erickson cousins.
Elaine was born on a small farm in Manitoba on October 4, 1935. She came to Campbell River with her sweetheart Ray and was married on August 9, 1955. Elaine and Ray lived and loved happily for 61 years until Rays passing on March 8, 2017.
In the early years, Elaine worked as a telephone operator for BC Tel. Once Karen and Dianne were school age Elaine returned to the work force with the Federal Government until her retirement in 1989. Elaine wasn’t retired long before she secured work with the Province of BC in the Income Assistance Office but shortly thereafter, retired once and for all. After retiring Elaine and Ray became Snowbirds spending many winters in Arizona. Elaine enjoyed running and you could often find her jogging the trails around the Sportsplex or Pinecrest park. Elaine loved to cook and she was a creative, artistic soul who enjoyed knitting, sewing and most of all watercolour painting.
Elaine lived a wonderful life and she knew that at the end what really mattered was not what was bought but what was built; not what one got, but what one shared; not one’s competence but one’s character; and not one’s success but one’s significance. Elaine lived a life that mattered. Elaine lived a life of love.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Yucalta Lodge who cared for Elaine with such love and kindness, specifically; Kulvie, Rhonda and Anne-Marie.
No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
