Loving mother of Debby and Janny, adoring Nana of Ali Doreen was a third generation Cortes Islander. Her knowledge of the land, trails and history of the Island is irreplaceable. Doreen was an adventurer and an independent spirit who lived life to the fullest. She will be remembered for her love of nature and the outdoors and for her passion for Canada and, in particular, for the people and places of Newfoundland. Doreen’s enthusiasm, boundless energy and spontaneity made her a treasured friend to many. Tragically, she was killed in a car accident a few days into a road trip across Canada. Doreen will be remembered with love and sadly missed by her family and by countless friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2006 from 1 – 3 pm at the Gorge Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Cortes Island Museum, the Cortes Island Medical Clinic or the Whaletown Church roof fund.
