In loving memory ~
Deirdre passed away peacefully in her sleep at Glenmore Lodge, in Kelowna, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, and her younger brother Declan. Left to remember and mourn her are her children, Karl, Daragh, and Brian; grandchildren Elisabeth, Siobhan, Emma and Demian; her sister Adrienne; nieces Sile and Sabra; nephew Andrew; and numerous in- laws and cousins.
Deirdre was born in Dublin, Ireland, met and married the love of her life there, "Eddie", and together with their baby boy, Karl, emigrated to Victoria, BC, Canada in 1958.
She had a gift for making everywhere she lived a welcoming home. And there was always FOOD! She loved gardening and especially loved her roses. When she and Eddie moved from a house into their first condo, she made the transition to patio gardening.
A woman of great faith, she was also an independent and modern thinker, believing in the ordination of women, birth control, and cremation before it was an accepted practice. She was a member of the CWL for many years, serving in leadership roles including local President; teaching Catechism; and was invited and participated in the first women's committee created by Bishop Remi DeRoo.
Her beautiful contralto voice was a gift she shared whether it was in the choir or from her seat in the pew. Deirdre bequeathed her children with her love of music, her sense of service, and her incredible work ethic.
We will miss Mom's beautiful smile, her joyful laughter, and the way she appreciated little things so much. However, we rejoice knowing she is at peace and reunited with all those she loved who passed before her.
Final arrangements will include a funeral mass and placing her ashes with Eddie's at Valley View Cemetery in Surrey, BC on August 11,2022. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations to CNIB are welcome.
