May 3, 1935 - Nov. 3, 2014

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Podeur. Predeceased by his wife of thirty-seven years, Darlene, Chris leaves to mourn his three children Sandy (Lorne), Bob (Thanh), and Lori (Rory); grandchildren, Michael, Cheri, Jeremy, Vincent and Patrick; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Chris was born in Morlaix, France where he became a draftsman and honed his skills as a stone mason. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 17. Chris travelled west across Canada and met his future wife, Darlene in Caustin, BC. They moved to Campbell River in 1957 to raise their family.

Chris worked at Elk Falls Mill where he was promoted to Production Planning Superintendent until his retirement in 1992. To provide for his family, Chris also built houses in his spare time and crafted many fireplaces in his neighbourhood on Thulin Street.

He was passionate about cycling and was an avid bike rider; often riding to and from work. In later years, Chris and Darlene learned to ski and travelled to many ski destinations. They eventually retired to Whistler. Soon after, Darlene passed away and Chris moved back to the Island where he spent the rest of his years.

Chris was a good-humoured, generous, and hardworking family man. He will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of New Horizons Care Facility for providing Chris’ care during the past three years. A special thank you to Leomar from the GMH unit for his professionalism and kindness towards our dad.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

A memorial service will be held on November 15, 2014 at 2:00pm at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Campbell River.
