January 14, 1934 - August 5, 2020
Carol Ann Zoffmann passed away peacefully in her home, in Campbell River, at the age of 86 on August 5, 2020. Embracing her life and the people around her with intelligence, respect and enthusiasm, her life began on Jan.14, 1934 in Vancouver, B.C. Raised in Burnaby, she was the youngest of five children of Edna and Fred Hoppe.
Following the lead of a multi-talented family, as a young woman Carol proceeded to fearlessly engage in all the challenges of what would prove to be an exciting and diverse life.
Married for the first time at 17, by the time she was 21, she was a single Mom raising two small children on her own. Carol took that responsibility for the rest of her life with the thoughtfulness and caring that only a dedicated mother can provide.
Armed with determination, optimism, and a never ending sense of humor, she led her children through an array of experiences that prepared them for the future.
With many talents at her disposal, Carol always seemed to come back to fields of teaching and creativity. She spent many years designing craft projects for magazines, writing books and group training programs.
After living in several B.C. locations, she finally settled in Campbell River in 1974. For a period of 8 years she worked as General Manager for the private fishing resort at Pennask Lake Lodge in the Okanagan, commuting each season for 6 months of the year.
She met her husband, Sven, in Campbell River and together they spent their senior years pursuing hobbies, traveling and doing volunteer work. This included 3 overseas assignments with CESO working in underdeveloped countries teaching a variety of skills. Carol also volunteered 44 years with the Campbell River Hospital Women's Auxiliary, 2 years with the C.R. Literary Association as a tutor of ESL, and spent several fun years as a member of Red Hat Society.
She loved scrabble and crafts, such as seed-beading and spent countless hours making something creative and unique out of nothing. Her costume designs were always best in show! This in turn led her to be an avid garage sale enthusiast both as a buyer and seller.
Predeased by her husband and her siblings, Carol is survived by daughter, Susan Thokle (Glenn), son Cliff Dorion, 5 grandchildren - Angela Wheatley, Ryan Sandholm, Kaitlyn McClure, Lauren Dorion & Michael Dorion and 7 great grandchildren along with many nieces & nephews.
