Feb 19, 2018
Our man, father and devoted friend Brian Kelly passed away February 19 at the age of 74. His family Karen, Justin, Kaylan, Quincy, Layla, Kelsey, Nolen and Sophie are left with a massive void. Born in Toronto but grew up in Hespler he was the oldest of 5 children.

A graduate of Galt Collegiate where he lettered in hockey and track. He earned a full athletic scholarship to University of Michigan specializing in the mile. Brian relocated to Vancouver to continue his education at UBC.

Brian came to Campbell River in 1970 to teach at Carihi. He was always a great teacher who stood by every kid long after others gave up. The caring Brian brought to at risk students spilled into the community as he was a long-time member of the John Howard Society. He was also a founding

member of the Critical Response Team. His empathetic nature brought much sough after counselling to students, personnel and families.

Brian's athleticism inspired many. The Oyster River runners and Snow to Surf shone brightly. In hockey Brian led the league in scoring for many years. He had a beautiful son Justin whom maintains his dad's athletic prowess. The "Black Creekers" played a very dynamic role in Brian's life, raising wonderful children, song nights and much laughter.

Karen and Brian spent 30 adventurous years together blending their families with many memorable times. From camping, football on the beach to houseboating on the "Nikki Rae". Life on the beach was essential to Brian. Children and grandchildren were enriched with his passion for the ocean. Those 2 lawnchairs facing the beach will forever be a symbol of his love.

May Brian continue to run, dance and sing surrounded by love, free from pain and suffering.

A celebration of life will be held April 7th at the Maritime Heritage Centre at 3:00 pm.
