July 8, 1940 - January 24, 2021
It is with profound sadness that the family of Brenda Nelson announces her passing on January 24th 2021. After 16 years without the love her life John, she has now joined him to be together once again.
Brenda was born in Toronto on July 8th 1940 to Thomas and Margaret (Linton) Burd. She met John in Orillia, Ontario and married a few years later. After having their daughter Laurie, job opportunities brought them to Victoria, BC., where their second daughter Deborah was born.
They settled in Campbell River in 1968, where they called home until their last days. In the 70's, Brenda enjoyed sharing her passion for ceramics at a booth in the Salmon Festival, as well as teaching the art of ceramics at Our Place Centre and the Community Hall.
She then expanded this into her own business called Brenda's Central Ceramics. She was a very talented ceramics teacher. Over the years Brenda also had many rental properties as well as helped John with his painting business until his retirement.
John and Brenda immensely enjoyed spending their summers at their lake property with family and friends.
Once John passed, Brenda spent her time with family and friends, continued to travel, and spent time camping at the lake and having family get togethers. Grandma loved her family more than anything and she was so proud of her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Brenda is predeceased by her loving husband John, sisters Joanne and Pamela, sister and brother in-law Anne and John McLean, and sister in-law Judy Burd.
She will be forever loved and sincerely missed by her daughters Laurie (Mike) Brown and Debbie Bourbonnais, grandchildren Alana, Ashley (Ryan), Cameron and Austin, and her great-grandchildren Garrett and Gavin. She is also survived by her brothers Warren and Chris Burd, brother in- law Jeff (Judi) Nelson, and sister in-law Jenni (Art) Jennings, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A heartfelt thank you to the exceptional staff in the Cancer Clinic and the 3rd floor at the Campbell River Hospital, Dr. Morrison, and to all of the amazing nurses and care aides with home care support services. We are so grateful for all of the help and guidance.
There will be no service due to Covid.
A family gathering will be held at a later date.
