Betty Doidge

November 21, 2014

Betty passed away peacefully in her sleep on the evening of Nov 21 2014, after living with Alzheimer's for many years. Throughout her time at New Horizons she was always a joy to visit and she taught us the strength of our spirit. Predeceased by her loving parents Mr. & Mrs. Jenner, her wonderful and devoted husband of 67 years "Bill" William Doidge, her beautiful and loving only child Patricia Smart, & her one and only amazing brother Roy Jenner.

Survived by her loving and devoted son-in-law Ernie Smart (Trudy), grandchildren Jennifer Wasilenchuk (Chris), Tricia Campbell (Adam) and great grandchildren Sophie & Heydon Campbell.

Betty was born in Winnipeg, where she met the love of her life in a roller rink on Jan 20/44. Shortly after on May 2/44 they were engaged, then married in Victoria on Sept 15/44. And together they lived "Happily Ever After".

Betty lived life to the fullest, she was a work hard, play hard kind of gal. Everything she did in her life she gave it her all and then some. Whether it be her vegetable & flower garden, her dancing, canning many varieties of foods, knitting & sewing, or lending a helping hand, she did it all with grace and perfection. Betty was definitely a true Canadian Hockey Fan, watching the game was more often than not a family affair. She had a love for so many things in life, a few being, spending her summers in Lake Cowichan, the fishing season in Sooke, and the winters down South. Most of all, she was know for being the life of the party, laughing, sharing fun stories, and singing along with the music. Even though she was struck with Alzheimer's, when you put the music on she always knew all of the words. She won the Best Singer Award at New Horizon's. She was an inspirational woman with so many beautiful stories and memories that we will cherish in our hearts. Thank you Betty for sharing all that you are with us. You remain in our hearts forever & always, we will see you again.... xo

The family would like to express our heart felt appreciation to the staff in the Special Care Unit at New Horizon's for taking special loving care of Betty over the past 6 years.

It was at Betty’s request to have no service for her passing. The family will be honoring her request and in lieu of flowers to the family we would ask that you would be so kind to make a donation in her name to the SPCA or Alzheimer's Society.
