Anthony (Tony) Cossenas

August 17, 1928 – November 18, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Tony Cossenas, after a brief but brave battle with post operative recovery. Anthony was surrounded by his family and passed, knowing he was well loved.

Son to Aristo and Helena, brother to Christa (Strati), Fotene (Pierre) and Aristia, Husband to Alice, father to Elza (Don), Aristo (Carolyn), George (Debbie), Aleco (Jodi),and Rita (Mike), Papa to Tammie, Nick, Arista, Cory, Max, Noah, Lucas, Caden, Ethan, Zach, Matthew and Quinn, Grand-Papa to Carson and Mason. Tony leaves behind a legacy of pride, commitment and dedication to all of those lives touched by his.

Tony was born in Haifa, Palestine. He worked as mechanic, welder and pipe-fitter with the Iraq Petroleum Company. In 1949 he met and stole the heart of his only love, Alice. They eloped and were married in Jerusalem on September 16 1956 and started their family soon after.

In 1966, looking to give his family a better life, Tony had to choose to immigrate to Australia or Canada. The decision was made for him when he received sponsorship from a Crown Zellerbach employee, to work as a pipe fitter at the Ocean Falls Mill. After a short time there, Tony was successful in a transfer to the Elk Falls Mill in Campbell River, where he lived, worked and raised the family. He retired in 1988 but always felt a strong connection to the company and the people who worked with him.

Tony and Alice raised their children to value family and friends above all things and it was evident in the way they opened their house. The home on Hilchey Rd in Willow Point became a hub of activity. He was happiest when family and friends came to visit for holidays and other occasions, to eat drink and laugh.

The Family would like to thank the Staff at the Campbell River General Hospital Emergency and ICU Departments. Special thanks to ICU Nurses, Monique, Paul, Jennifer, Bernice and Kristi and to Respiratory Therapist Craig, as well as Dr’s Grace, Jacobs, Juszkiewicz, Dhansay and all the staff. In Lieu of flowers, the Family encourages a donation to the Campbell River Hospital Foundation, 381-2nd Avenue, Campbell River, BC, V9W 3V1.
