Allan R Todd (Captain)


Born June 18, 1934 in Edmonton AB. Allan passed away peacefully at home on Cortes Island with his partner Brian by his side on May 26, 2008 after a short courageous battle with cancer.

Predeceased by his parents Louis and Myrtle, brothers Bill and Keith, sister Vi and nephew Ken. He leaves to mourn sisters Terry (Dave), Jean, brother Dennis (Peggy) and sister-in-law Carol. He also leaves numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Allan joined the Air Cadets at the age of 12 where he excelled as a marksman and at the age of 17 acquired his pilot’s license.

He spent 45 years at sea working on coastal vessels. He worked for Island Tug & Barge, Seaspan & BC Ferries. While working for Island Tug & Barge, Allan was promoted to Captain.

His love of music took him in many difference directions from singing in the local legions to the Barber Shop Quartet to writing songs and he was also a Jazz Festival regular.

Allan’s smile, friendly personality and singing will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort Street, Victoria, on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 2.00pm. In lieu of flowers donations many be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
