Jim passed away on August 7th, 2004 at Campbell River District Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and May, sister Phyllis, and his brothers Bert and Alan and survived by his brothers, Arthur (Sheila), Eddie (Ruth), Dexter and his sisters Linda and Betty of the U.K.

He is also survived by his wife Irene, daughters Janet and Melodie (Vancouver Island) and Christine (Ontario). He also leaves 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Jim was born in London, U.K., and spent 8 years in the military, most of which time he was in the Royal Military Police. He met Irene while both were serving in the forces in Belfast, N.Ireland, and they were married in 1953. After working in the family Janitorial business, he and his family emigrated to Canada in 1963, living in Toronto before moving out west to B.C. in 1982. In 1985 he began working as chief custodian and janitor in Capt.. Meare’s Sec. School in Tahsis until his retirement in 1993.

Later he pursued his interests in model-making of military vehicles and aircraft and especially the wooden doll houses for each of his daughters and his wife. Besides his crafts, he will be lovingly remembered for his love for his family as well as his wit and humour, even to the end.

The family would like to thank all the nurses in ICU and Palliative Care for their compassion and loving care. They are to be highly commended for their selfless devotion in providing such comfort to Jim in his last days.

Special thanks also to the care provided by the home support nurses.

Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held at River City Christian Ministries on Colwyn/5th. Ave on Saturday, August 21, 2004 at 2pm. A reception will follow at the Foursquare Church on Larwood.

His family in the U.K. will also remember their brother Jim in a memorial service the same day in London, U.K.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Campbell River.
