With great sadness we announce that on October 2, 2006, Alan R. Halliday passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home.
Predeceased by his parents Reg & Lily, sisters Bea and Elizabeth, brother Jim and daughter Ann Louise.
Alan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Caroline (McLeod), his children Randy (Julia), Judy, Frances, Gorsline (Barry), Michael (Wendi), Mary Young (Paul), Jennifer (Wayne) & Lisa (Richard). Also grandchildren Lucia, Adrian, Amberli, Yaro, Shane, Angus, Richard, Julian & Arlen also his brother Gordon and sister Mary (Ken). As well as many nieces, nephews & cousins too numerous to mention.
Alan was born January 31, 1927 in Alert Bay, BC, one of the third generation of Hallidays to be raised in Kingcome Inlet. A resourceful and skilled man, he turned his hand to many sucessful endeavors, including beef cattle farming, hand logging, raising 8 children, contracting gravel trucks to the local logging camp, transporting freight by boat, as well as being the local postmaster and fire warden, creating perfect pastry and prized pea soup were a couple of his lesser known talents.
Alan reluctantly left the Kincome Valley he loved so much and retired to Storries Beach, Campbell River, BC in 1986. Always with a sparkle in his eye, a story to tell, a keen sense of humour and a loyal optimistic fan of the Canucks, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place, at his request. A memorial celebration of Alan’s life will be held Oct. 21, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Merville Hall, 1/2 kilometer north of Merville Store, on old Island Highway (19A). Please bring any remembrances and favourite stories to share. Refreshments will be available.
