Women will Take Back the Night

Take Back the Night is a local march in solidarity for Campbell River women to raise awareness of women’s rights to be safe from violence

Take Back the Night is a local march in solidarity for Campbell River women to raise awareness of women’s rights to be safe from violence in their communities and homes.

As a group, women are still greatly overrepresented as victims of sexual violence. According to the Canadian Women’s Foundation, one in two girls in Canada will be physically or sexually abused in their lifetime.

The first Canadian Take Back the Night march was in Vancouver in 1978, as an event to speak out against violence, sexual assault, and harassment.

It is about women reclaiming the right to be able to walk without fear at night and to eliminate sexual violence. All women are invited to join a short march starting at Spirit Square, 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12.

The march goes through downtown and concludes back at the square. Men are welcome to support this march by walking along side. For more information contact the Campbell River Women’s Centre at 250-287-3044.
