Woman arrested in connection with death released from custody

Campbell River RCMP say a 39-year-old local woman died from an 'apparent homicide' on Wednesday

A Campbell River woman arrested following the suspicious death of another woman has been released from police custody.

According to Campbell River RCMP, a 39-year-old local woman was found dead of an “apparent homicide” in an Eardley Road home Wednesday afternoon. Another 24-year-old man was also found inside the home and was airlifted to hospital in Victoria with undisclosed injuries.

Witnesses saw police leading a 19-year-old woman away from the Willow Point resident in handcuffs and police confirmed her arrest, but have released no other details about the incident.

In a news release issued Friday morning, police said the investigation is continuing, but did not release any names.

“No charges have been laid and investigation is ongoing,” said Cpl. Gord Hay. “Investigators are confident that all those involved in this incident have been identified and they are now working to determine the actions of those people. Anyone with information related to this crime is asked to call the Campbell River RCMP.”

Cpl. Hay later confirmed the 19-year-old is no longer in custody.

Investigators were back at the residence, located in the 2000 block Eardley Rd., this morning and had blocked off the street to traffic.

This is the city’s second murder of 2014. On Feb. 25, Caroline Doreen Surrett, 72, was found dead in her home at 874 S. Alder St.

Her 84-year-old common-law husband, Konstanty (Karol) Bukiewicz, is charged with second degree murder and is currently on bail.
