A trial is underway for a man accused of historical sex assaults in Campbell River

A trial is underway for a man accused of historical sex assaults that occurred in the old native village of Church House and in Campbell River.

Elmer Blaney has pleaded not guilty to the charges which includes five counts of sexual assault and four counts of indecent assault.

Blaney’s trial began Wednesday in Campbell River provincial court before Judge Roderick Sutton and is expected to last at least five days.

Crown prosecutor Tim Morgan told the court he will call four witnesses who are expected to testify against Blaney.

“It’s a reliability, credibility case,” said Morgan.

The identities of all four woman are protected by a publication ban.
