Thanks to a $9,000 grant from Tree Canada, the City of Campbell River will replace trees along the south end of the community’s Dogwood Street entrance.
Parks staff will remove the existing trees along the east side of the route, upgrade the irrigation system and plant 80 new European hornbeam trees.
“The existing trees and associated irrigation system were not installed properly by the contractor when the original project was undertaken in 1999,” explains Ross Milnthorp, the City’s general manager of parks, recreation and culture. “As a result, after 14 years, the existing trees are stunted or dying and need to be replaced.”
The new trees are expected to be planted within three weeks.
