Western Forest Products officials and police have confirmed a train with WFP personnel aboard has derailed near Woss.
“We are co-operating fully with all authorities and will continue to do so,” WFP spokesperson Amy Spencer told The Gazette at 11:15 a.m. Thursday.
Spencer did not have any more details about the number of WFP personnel on board the train or any possible injuries.
There were unconfirmed reports BC Ambulance personnel were dispatched to the scene near Woss.
This statement was recently released by the RCMP:
“The RCMP is currently investigating a train derailment in Woss which is located 75 km southeast of Port McNeill . The RCMP is one of many first responders and investigative agencies at scene. Very few details are available at this time but RCMP can confirm that several individuals have been injured. The full extent of those injuries are not known. The cause of the incident remains under investigation and the area has been cordoned off. More information will be released when available.”
According to Wikipedia, the Englewood Railway is headquartered in Woss and the line runs 90 km (56 mi) from Vernon Lake, through Woss, past Nimpkish Lake Provincial Park to Beaver Cove. It is the last operating logging railroad in North America.
