Tidemark Theatre announces summer shutdown

Campbell River theatre will temporarily suspend its activities this summer

The Tidemark Theatre Society will be shutting down for the summer between July 15 and September 4.

In an effort to streamline operations, the Tidemark Theatre Society has decided to temporarily suspend its activities this summer.

“This shutdown is believed to be a prudent and necessary step for the long term success of the Tidemark Theatre,” says Kim Emsley-Leik, Managing Director. “Historically there have been very few facility rentals scheduled during the summer months and there appears to be a natural decrease in ticket sales during this time. Fiscal responsibility is very important and as we move towards this time of transition here at the Tidemark Theatre, we have to be strategic with respect to how we are allocating our resources.”

At this point in time, the Tidemark Theatre Society has acquired $306,000 in grant funding from Island Coastal Economic Trust and Coast Sustainability Trust for the Tidemark Theatre Revitalization Project, which includes capital upgrades such as new stage lighting, online ticketing, new seats, and an in house projection system. The Tidemark 25 Capital Campaign, co-chaired by Denise Mitchell-Hills and Christina Vokey, has successfully fundraised over $50,000 in support of this project. The Society is in the process of acquiring matching funding for these grants in order to proceed with the project. In celebration of the Tidemarks 25th Anniversary, the Tidemark Theatre Society has a goal of raising $250,000 by December 31, 2012. All of these funds are restricted for capital upgrades.

The Tidemark Theatre is scheduled to close July 15th and will fully re-open September 4th. The Ticket Centre will re-open for limited hours beginning August 14 to service rental clients and to allow patrons to purchase tickets for the upcoming September events.
