It may be winter but the Campbell River Fish and Wildlife is very busy these days.
On Tuesday, Jan. 26 they hosted a dinner, followed by a presentation by Gina Sage on the Western Screech Owl.
Western Screech Owl populations are very low and studies along with the placement of nesting boxes are being conducted at a number of sites in our area. Some 30 people attended the presentation and then constructed 12 nesting boxes.
Those boxes will be placed in suitable locations in this area.
Archery continues to be extremely busy at the indoor range.
In order to accommodate the large number of new people and regular shooters, they are implementing some changes.
Archery instruction will take place on Mondays only from 6-7 p.m. That time will be for new people or anyone needing farther basic instruction.
Mondays 7-8:30 p.m. will be open shooting.
Wednesdays 6-8 p.m. is league shooting for members only. Fridays 6:30-8 p.m. will be open drop-in shooting.
The fee for members with their own equipment is $2 per night and it is $5 per night for non-members or members using club equipment.
Volunteers are also busy getting ready for our Annual Banquet and Fund Raiser on Feb. 20.
This event features a huge buffet with mostly wild game and fish, a live band, some displays and various forms of auctions and raffles. Tickets are $30 per person and are available at Tyee Marine and River Sportsman.
