Campbell River students will get another long weekend next Friday if teachers and the province are still locked in a contract dispute.
The B.C. Teachers’ Federation announced another round of rotating strikes in an effort to pressure government negotiators.
In response, the province imposed its own restrictions on teachers as both sides continue to fight rather than talk about a settlement.
“Teachers know that bargaining is about compromise, but we cannot be the only ones expected to move,” federation president Jim Iker said in a news release.
The government is offering a 7.3-per-cent wage increase over six years. Teachers want 13.7 per cent over four years. Other key issues are class size and class composition.
Campbell River teachers hit the picket lines Monday as the first round of rotating strikes began across the province.
The next one-day strike for School District 72 is Friday, June 6.
