Last Friday was a traumatic day for a Vallejo Road family after firefighters had to put out a fire in their house. Luckily, nobody was injured and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family of eight, who did have insurance but could use some help getting back on their feet.
Fire protection was on the mind of people in the past who built houses and other buildings with asbestos. But that asbestos has to be disposed of and a proposal to dispose of it at the Campbell River Dump was approved by city council, despite some intial misgivings by some city councillors.
Mirror reporter Mike Davies doesn’t seem to be encountering any misgivings from the subjects of his popular Mike’s Mirror Minute where he talks to local people about the things they do in the community. This week he talked to Jodi Boyd of the Campbell River Women’s Centre. Watch for another Mirror Minute airing every Monday.
It wasn’t a great week for another Campbell River family whose faithful parrot George flew the coop. The family circulated their neighbourhood looking for the longtime family pet and putting up lost posters. Hopefully, this story will have a happy ending with George returning to his home.
Returning this summer is the second annual Campbell River Salmon Derby after a successful first season last year. What’s the Salmon Capital without a salmon derby organizers felt? Besides creating an early summer marquee event, the derby also raises money for local charities.
