A Campbell River man with a lengthy criminal record received a two-year jail sentence for violently assaulting and robbing another man.
John Knox was sentenced Friday in B.C. Supreme Court after being found guilty last October of robbery and assault causing bodily harm.
According to court records, on Aug. 29, 2008, Knox robbed Arne Jensen and assaulted him.
Jensen suffered bruising to his face and required stitches. His hand was also burned with a lighter.
In February 2007, Knox was arrested after stealing a police bait car. He tried to flee on foot after the engine was deactivated remotely, but was quickly caught by police.
He was later charged with theft over $5,000, impaired driving, possession of break-in instruments, possession of stolen goods and flight from a peace officer.
In early 2004, he was arrested in connection with a string of break and enters that occurred in Campbell River and Gold River. At Friday’s sentencing hearing for his latest conviction, Justice Douglas Halfyard sentenced Knox to a federal sentence of two years.
Knox was also ordered to provide a DNA sample to the national police registry and received a lifetime firearms ban.
