RCMP buckle down on New Year’s Eve

Campbell River RCMP said they were fully staffed and prepared for anything on New Year’s Eve, normally one of the busiest nights of the year for police.

Throughout the evening they attended disturbances, a motor vehicle accident, numerous 911 calls, and many other calls for service, said COnst. Sara Clark, Campbell River RCMP spokesperson. Police took three impaired drivers off the road and over 100 vehicles were stopped in check stops.

“Planning is always done ahead of time to ensure members on shift are able to cover calls for service as well as protect the public with extra pro-active policing that is required on celebratory nights like New Year’s Eve. Many people are still out with friends and family well into the morning so there is a need to ensure we are well covered for the entire 24 hours surrounding the momentous 12 o’clock toll,” said Const. Clark.
