POLICE BEAT: Drunk driver hits building

Drunk driver hits building

Something was obviously wrong with the driver when the truck hit the apartment building in the early morning hours on Friday.

RCMP were called to the apartment at 645-9th Ave., at 1:30 a.m., where they found the 31-year-old male drive who displayed “gross signs of impairment.”

He was taken to hospital to be checked over and then transported to the police detachment where he failed a breathalyzer test.

Mounties are recommending he be charged with impaired driving.

In another incident later that day, at 5:40 p.m., a member of the RCMP Street Crimes Unit stopped a vehicle on 16th Avenue. The 54-year-old male driver displayed signs of impairment and was requested to provide a breath sample. The readings resulted in the man being issued with a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound. As well, further investigation of the four people in the vehicle resulted in the seizure of small amounts of cocaine and heroin.

Man surrenders peacefully

On April 10, at 12 p.m., RCMP were notified that a despondent male was in a residence on 15th Avenue.

Family members concerned for his well-being had called police. Officers responded to the area and established a perimeter. They were able to make contact with the male who left the home and was transported to hospital.
