Ken and Arelene Beoon will attend the Peace river Coffee House on Quadra Island on Saturday March 24, to outline their experiences fighting the Site C dam project in order to protect their property which will be flooded by the dam.

Quadra Island is one of the many communities on Vancouver Island hosting the Justice for the Peace Tour in last week of March.

The Peace River Coffee House will be a fundraiser for the legal costs of the West Moberley and Prophet River First Nations and the Peace River Landowners Association.

Join in on an evening of diverse music, beautiful images of the threatened Peace River Valley, an inspiring presentation, scrumptious desserts and, of course, teas and coffee.

This is an opportunity to hear from Ken and Arlene Boon, third generation farmers whose land and home overlook the Peace River. Their home and land will be expropriated and flooded by BC Hydro should the mega dam project go forward.

Ken will share his experiences in fighting the Site C dam over the past 20 years. They have been involved in many forms of opposition to Site C including the environmental assessment process, legal challenges to the dam, the Yellow Stake in the Peace fundraising campaign for First Nations Court challenges, and various other forms of peaceful protest.

All this is happening at the Quadra Community Centre, on Saturday, March 24. Doors open at 7. Admission is by donation. Call 285-3632 if you’d like to be picked up at the ferry.

First Nations are going to court in July asking for an injunction to stop construction until their civil action for infringement of Treaty 8 rights has been heard.
