Parents invited to Internet/social media sessions

It is not uncommon for our kids to know more about the workings of the Internet and social media than their parents do, but School District 72 wants to help change that with a pair of information sessions designed to enhance digital literacy.

Darren Laur of Personal Protection Systems will present to parents and guardians of school-aged children in the district on March 7 and March 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Timberline Secondary Theatre, examining the digital world and its threats a little more closely.

Lazur is a law enforcement professional with 29 years of policing experience who is deeply immersed in social media, both on and off the job. He has taught digital safety for the past 12 years as an internationally recognized safety expert and award-winning author.

The sessions will include such topics as smartphone and webcam safety, how to secure your social network, what our kids are doing online, the dangers of screen names and profiles, who the internet predator is, what their tricks are and much more.

Pre-registration is not required.
