The Campbell River and District Adult Care Society on Larwood Road in Willow Point was behind a picket line Friday as members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 1518 raised the stakes in their dispute over wages and benefits.
The rotating job action was moving to the Richmond Kinsmen Adult Day Care today, Wednesday.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Union is part of the Community Bargaining Association which has been unable to make any progress so far in negotiations with the Health Employers’ Association of British Columbia.
“The ongoing limited job action in Community Health is sending a clear message to the government that we are standing up for a fair deal,” says Monica Staff, United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1518 Director of Health Care.
“The CBA has a strong strike mandate backing members’ demands for a fair deal, and they will continue working hard on behalf of members to ensure a fair and reasonable wage offer for its 14,000 members who have been at the bargaining table since January,” the union spokeswoman says.
