The Museum at Campbell River has appointed David Leverton as its new eecutive director.
In making the announcement, Colleen Evans, President of the Museum’s Board of Trustees said, “We are excited to be working with David. He brings a wealth of experience and energy that is vital to the important role of the Museum’s ongoing development.”
Leverton has had an extensive career as a senior executive and consultant with a number of public facilities including First Nations cultural and heritage centres, a maritime museum and major science centres, including the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver and the Telus World of Science in Edmonton. Besides B.C. and Alberta, he has also worked in the Yukon and in New Zealand.
Commenting on his appointment, Leverton said, “I am very pleased to have been offered the position of executive director for the Museum at Campbell River. I have always been impressed by the professional standards of the facility and it is such a pleasure to now have the opportunity to be part of the museum team.
"I look forward to working with the Board, staff, volunteers and community members in ensuring that the Museum continues to provide the same level of professionalism and commitment towards preserving and interpreting the region’s past for the benefit of local area residents and visitors alike.”
Leverton’s first fulltime job was in Campbell River in the mid-seventies. He and his wife now live in the Comox Valley and keep their boat in Campbell River.
There will be an opportunity to meet David Leverton on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at an Open House at the Museum. In order to accommodate all those who would like to meet him, two reception times have been planned: from 1-3 p.m. in the afternoon and from 5-7 p.m. in the evening. People are invited to attend whichever one they prefer.
