Campbell River ElderCollege (CREC) hosted an engaging and successful community event on Sept. 20 at North Island College (NIC).

Eighty attendees gathered to learn about exciting upcoming courses and programs, with course leaders presenting a variety of new and continuing educational opportunities.

Hosted by NIC’s Continuing Education (NIC CE) department, the forum allowed the community to hear directly from instructors, ask questions, and explore how they could further their knowledge and skills through the courses offered.

The event was well-received, with a strong turnout and high levels of engagement from attendees.

The event was opened by CREC’s Advisory Committee Chair, Lori Rodway. Rodway served as the event’s MC, guiding attendees through the program and introducing Course Leaders who each spoke about their respective courses.

In cases where leaders were absent, Lori provided a read-aloud of their prepared statements. CE Manager Donna Merry spoke about the growing importance of community engagement and continuing education, followed by an address from Lorraine Hagen, the NIC Liaison to CREC. Library Tech Katherine Kasatkin shared information on library facilities and resources available to CREC members, extending an invitation for tours after the meeting.

Following the forum, registration opened on Monday, Sept. 23. By Tuesday morning, three courses were fully booked, with three others close to capacity—a clear sign of the event's success and the growing enthusiasm for lifelong learning in the community.
