RCMP are saying the death Cowichan’s Joseph Alexander Smith, who was reported missing on May 7, is suspicious.

A witness who discovered the 42-year old’s body in a remote forested area an hour west of Lake Cowichan, notified RCMP on May 14.

Initial evidence gathered at the scene led investigators to believe criminality was involved, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé.

Smith was last seen in Duncan on May 2.
