Major stars to film at Elk Falls Provincial Park

Location chosen 'for the large old growth trees that are accessible, picturesque [that will] serve production well for the film’s scenes'

Bron Studios of Vancouver and Rhombus Media of Toronto are producing a motion picture entitled Into the Forest, based on the Jean Hegland novel of the same name, which will star Ellen Page (Juno, X-Men Days of Future Past) and Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler, Thirteen), and they’ve settled on Elk Falls Provincial Park as one of the locations for filming.

According to production company, Into the Forest Productions BC, the location was chosen “for the large old growth trees that are accessible, picturesque [that will] serve production well for the film’s scenes.”

Directed by Patricia Rozema (Mansfield Park), the film centres on two teens growing up in the remote forests of Northern California while the world is on the brink of apocalypse.

BC Parks has permitted the production to film in the Day Use Area in the upper parking lot and related public trails around the old growth trees. Filming dates will be on Aug. 24 and 25, though the general public will be welcomed throughout the area only during the cleanup and teardown stage of the shoot on the 25th. During filming, the support vehicles and services have been given the option of locating along the upper parking lot access road and parking area and will also be using a portion of the new parking area near the BC Hydro Interpretive Centre. The public will have vehicle access to the park via the new BC Hydro / BC Parks parking area and the lower parking lot will remain open. Use of all surrounding walking trails will be allowed with occasional requests for control for short periods during actual filming.
