Wet roads, freezing temperatures and fog combined to turn the intersection of 2nd Avenue and McPhedran Road into an ice sheet Tuesday morning leading to a domino-like chain of accidents.
The first driver parked her car hours earlier after hitting ice and damaging the front end. Then, around 8:30 a.m., a pick-up truck lost control on the ice and smashed the driver’s side of the vehicle. And then another pickup, heading down 2nd towards Merecroft also lost control, but managed to avoid the other two vehicles. No one appeared to be seriously hurt. Firefighters salted the road by hand before a city public works vehicle arrived.
