Hundreds of Campbell River students clean up for Earth Day

More than 1,700 students from 11 schools in the district are taking part in the Tim Hortons Community Clean Up

Don’t be surprised when you see students cleaning up around their school neighbourhoods this week.

More than 1,700 students from 11 schools in the district are taking part in the Tim Hortons Community Clean Up in conjunction with Earth Day 2014. Earth Day was Tuesday, when the students were off due to a professional development day, but they’ll be picking up trash throughout the rest of the school week.

Students at Ecole Phoenix and Penfield Elementary will lead the way with 450 and 300 students respectively taking part in the clean-up. Other participating elementary schools include Oyster River, Georgia Park, Cedar, Sandowne, Discovery Passage, Ecole des Deux Mondes, Quadra and Sayward, along with Carihi Secondary.

Canadian Tire is supplying the garbage bags and gloves, while Tim Hortons is giving all students a coupon for free Timbits and a drink along a couple nice cash rewards. One school will receive a cash prize of $500 and one teacher will receive a $100 Tim Hortons gift card.
