An overnight house fire in the Village of Sayward left no casualties or injuries, but but destroyed the house.

On Monday, June 5, the Sayward Volunteer Fire Department (SVFD) responded to a call just after 2 a.m.

“The house is a total loss,” said Sayward Volunteer Fire Chief Frank Morgan. “I’m happy to say the occupants of the house, however, got out safely.”

Thirteen firefighters from the SVFD engaged in extinguishing the fire. With no fire hydrants installed in the village, the fire crew had to employ different strategies.

“We had to shuttle water continuously throughout the night,” explains Morgan.

Assistance came from local resident Michael Schmidt, who allowed the SVFD access to their excavator in order to help them extinguish the flames.

Morgan was grateful for the assistance from Schmidt, as well as Mainroad Contracting, who allowed the firefighters access to the company’s water source.

“Many thanks to them,” said Morgan. “They provided us with a nearby water source.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family of Zack Vincent and his family, who were the victims of the fire. If you want to donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/zack-vincent-house-fire
