The Campbell River Hospital Auxiliary and Campbell River Hospital Foundation announced Wednesday they have joined together to support improvements to the community’s obstetrical team.

The program, MORE OB, is a comprehensive performance improvement program that creates a culture of patient safety in obstetrical units. MORE OB has been delivered to over 300 hospitals and more than 14,000 participants in 10 years and Campbell River Hospital is the first Island Health site to implement this important program.

MORE OB is an inclusive program that will include all physicians who practice obstetrics in our area as well as all nursing staff in the Campbell River Hospital Maternity Department.

The purpose of the program is to build and sustain a culture of patient safety through the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviours and practices that make safety the number one priority for all members of the team, all of the time.   A three year program, MORE OB consists of online learning, skills drills, workshops and clinical examinations to ensure the whole team within the obstetrical unit is working from the same page.

The Campbell River Hospital Auxiliary’s vision is to provide care and comfort for everyone who utilizes the Campbell River Hospital.

It is operated solely by volunteers, with their main programs including operating the Thrift Shop, Gift Shop and Used Books in the hospital. The Campbell River Hospital Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to raising funds to support the Campbell River hospital and Yucalta Lodge through equipment purchase, staff education and capital projects that help enhance the service and treatment of patients and residents.
