Campbell Riverites Jonathan and Lauren Lovett are avid fishers, but have been disappointed in the amount of debris left behind after this year’s fishing season.

So, instead of complaining, they decided to ask for a “call to action.” They asked their Marine Harvest peers to join them at the Campbell River Tuesday (at the logging bridge), and work parties were sent out to scour the shoreline clean. The debris consisted of 90 per cent stranded fishing line, which is a major threat to birds and sea life. Garbage and recycling was separated and taken to the Campbell River dump Wednesday.
