Police officers cordoned off Dogwood Street Thursday morning after receiving reports of a gunshot.

A report of a gunshot at Panoramic Towers on Dogwood Street turned out to be a false alarm Thursday morning.

RCMP were called at 8:09 a.m., regarding a woman shooting a firearm inside one of the apartments, located across the street from Carihi Secondary School.

Several police officers responded to the call, along with an ambulance, and proceeded to set up a perimeter around the three-storey complex.

“Multiple officers responded and the area was cordoned off,” said Sgt. Craig Massey in a news release. “Staff at Carihi were notified in an attempt to move students inside the school (and) school staff responded immediately.

“Dogwood Street was blocked off by officers  to ensure public safety.”

The investigation revealed there was no one in the area with a firearm and no risk to the public.

“The RCMP wish to thank the public passing through this area for their patience in the course of this investigation,” Massey added.
