Peter Klobucar is running for city council, but the first thing he’ll tell you is he’s not a politician.

Klobucar, who has been a resident of Campbell River for five years, is taking another run at a spot on city council after coming up short in the 2011 civic election.

If elected, Klobucar will aim for a four-year property tax freeze for homeowners and business owners.

Klobucar says he will also say ‘no’ to an LNG plant for Campbell River.

He also has a vision for a full-time market with foods, crafts, and music along the river front all year round.

Klobucar says as city councillor he would support the SPCA in full, and work to replace the boardwalk at Tyee Spit.

He also wants the city to establish two dog parks for small and large dogs and believes that “families with one or more children should be allowed the extra 80 litre garbage container at no extra cost.”

Klobucar says above all, he will be approachable and work towards change.

“As your councillor, I will be open-minded, hard working, willing to listen to others, willing to discuss and solve the important issues that need to be solved in order to make Campbell River number one in growth and prosperity,” Klobucar says. “I don’t waste my money and I won’t waste yours.”

Originally from Windsor, Ont., Klobucar owned and operated a printing and publishing company for 25 years. He was a member of the International Typographical Union, served on the negotiating team for the union and later served on the board of directors for The Windsor Craftsmen’s Club (managers and owners). Klobucar also served as a member of the Heart and Stroke Foundation and in his spare time enjoyed coaching little league soccer.

Klobucar and his wife Denise, a retired teacher and professional artist, have raised a family of five children, who now have four children of their own.

Klobucar currently works at Comox Valley Nissan as a sales consultant.
