Elderly woman displaced from home by fire

Fire crews from both fire stations were on scene until just after midnight and prevented any damage to adjacent homes

An elderly woman escaped without injury, but her home was extensively damaged by fire Sunday evening.

“When Campbell River Fire Rescue responded to a house fire on Fawn Road yesterday evening at about 7:05 p.m., a large portion of the roof was involved in fire,” says Fire Chief Ian Baikie. “The lone occupant was watching from the street and is now staying with family since the damage was so significant.”

Fire crews from both fire stations were on scene until just after midnight and prevented any damage to adjacent homes.

“The roof on this home was under construction before the fire, and fire investigators are interviewing the roofer, the home owner and neighbours to try and understand how the fire occurred,” the fire chief adds.

Dollar value of the damage has yet to be determined. The home was insured.
