Dangerous drugs stolen

Police are warning drug users about potentially lethal methadone powder that was stolen from a Campbell River pharmacy early Monday morning.

Police are warning drug users about potentially lethal methadone powder that was stolen from a Campbell River pharmacy early Monday morning.

“Police are warning the public that these narcotics will likely be trafficked at the street level in the weeks to come and will pose a significant risk to those who take them,” said RCMP Sgt. Craig Massey in a news release.

Around 4:20 a.m. Monday, culprits broke into Campbell River Health and Drug Store located, in the Merecroft Village, and used a chain attached to a pickup truck to remove the store’s safe.

The safe contained “a number of very potent narcotics which could be fatal if they are ingested by persons not prescribed,” said Massey.

It is also believed the pickup truck used in the heist had been stolen earlier from a local car dealership.

“Video from area businesses confirms that members of the public were passing by the area while the offenders were committing this offence,” said Massey. “Anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area of Merecroft Village early Monday morning is asked to contact the Campbell River RCMP.”

Witnesses can also provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
