Local resident Nora Anderson was on her way to work on Monday morning when flames burst from underneath the passenger-side dashboard of her 2001 Volkswagen Golf, on Hilchey Road near the South Island Highway. A city crew working on a nearby sidewalk used an extinguisher to put out the fire. Two police and six firefighters attended the scene, said acting fire captain Seth Hildebrand. There were no injuries, and traffic reopened after a tow truck took the damaged vehicle away. The cause of the fire is unknown, said Hildebrand.
